The original white settlers of Coopersburg were mostly Mennonites, who emigrated from Holland between the years 1725 and 1737. Among the Mennonites heretofore referred to was George Bachman, the pioneer settler of Coopersburg. He built and opened a hotel about 1745 to 1750. The old hotel was known as the Seven Star, or in the vernacular of the place, “Der Siebenstern” a crescent surrounded by seven stars appearing on the sign. Daniel Cooper bought the hotel and replaced it with the Eagle hotel in 1829. It wasn’t until 1832 that the village was named Coopersburg, after Judge Peter Cooper, sone of Daniel.Coopersburg borough, in Lehigh County PA, is mostly surrounded by Upper Saucon Township with two portions in the southeast touching Springfield Township in Bucks County. Some notable people from Coopersburg are John Myung, and Mike Portnoy, founding members and musicians for Dream Theater and Chuck Bednarik, football great for the Philadelphia Eagles.
